Most of Makai isn't in the least way civilized. It is a hard world to survive in, especially the youkai lands which are almost entirely surrounded by dangerous mountains. There are only a few safe passes to other lands, usually highly patrolled. To the south there is the kitsune forest which turns into an unpassable swampland at the southern edge of the youkai lands. The south is the only region without mountains, with swamplands spanning the most part and the barrenlands spanning the southeast border.
The floating island of Koorime hovers a far distance above the western region of the kitsune forest, close to the southernmost range of mountains along the youkai territory's western border. A dangerous path leads to a highly guarded suspension bridge, but it is hardly never traveled, flight is the most common way to access Koorime - when they allow access at all.
At the center of the youkai territory, nestled along the one river that occassionally flows with water, lies Saitennin. It is the largest city in the youkai lands, a trading post with a massive market nearly every day. Just to the south hidden among a small range of mountains is the Dragon Palace, the former home of the Dragon Clan's royal family, the rulers of Makai.
